The Best Way To Boost Your Kids’ Ability To Learn

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Technology has changed many aspects of human life; even education is being affected. Whereas there used to be a time when the only way you could attain help for your child was to go someplace and get them to tutored, now they can be tutored at home from your computer screen.

This form of tutoring is just as efficient as face-to-face methods of private tutoring. While the tutor might not be in the exact same room as the student, the communication technology of the Internet makes it possible for interaction between tutor and student to be just as good as in person.

Online, the student is separated from the tutor by miles and a screen. Tutoring software creates a simulated environment that is best suited for the learning process.

This relatively new method of tutoring is becoming very popular among people nowadays, due to its low costs and extreme convenience.

Not having to leave your home saves you gas and a lot of hassle. Parents might not have the time to physically transport their kid to the home of the tutor, and private tutors that make house calls are always more expensive. Online tutoring allows students to receive instruction on the computer and eliminates the need to go anywhere.

Privacy is another factor to consider. Students may feel self-conscious about needing help in a particular area of study; they might not want their friends to know. Online tutoring helps a student maintain an anonymous presence and can ultimately lead to greater feelings of security.

Economically, it is much smarter to do online tutoring than it is to hire a private tutor. When going to a tutor’s house, you have to consider the cost of gas. When paying a tutor to come to you, the price is always jacked up. You don’t have to worry about either when doing it online.

You can always be certain that the tutor connected with your child online is qualified to provide them instruction. Online tutoring companies train their tutors and make sure they are ready to provide instruction before allowing them to work.

Compassion and understanding are also things that you can be sure to get from online tutors. Tutoring companies conduct intensive background checks to ensure that tutors are properly fitted for the job. So consider switching from private tutoring to an online tutoring service. It is a very wise decision.

Fun Things To Do Indoor While It’s Raining

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

Kids love to play out and that is why they love the spring and summer but unfortunately these months are not here forever. As sure as night follows day there are going to be some days when it inevitably rains and this often depresses the kids as they will have to stay inside all day.

But just because it is raining does not mean that the kids cannot have fun. Why not all jump into the car and have a drive down to the local library. You could find lots of great books that the children can read or you may also find some materials for doing art projects.

There are also scrapbooks which can often keep the kids occupied for hours on end.

This can also be a great time for your family to enjoy some bonding sessions by putting on a home movie. If this does not appeal to the kids then get out their favorite movie and all sit down to watch it with some snacks and popcorn and make a day of it.

If you are at a loss at weekends or when school is out and it is raining then why not let the kids dress up and they could have a tea party. They could help with preparing the cookies and baking as kids always love to do things like that.

Then there are always the favorite board games that every family has in the house. You could have challenges at dominoes or scrabble or play card games or any other board game that you fancy. The kids always love to beat the adults at these games.

If you have exhausted all of these options then it may be time for the kids to make up other suggestions for playing in the house. This can be done by individually writing down suggestions on pieces of paper and placing them in a box or hat. Then you just choose one of these suggestions at random and play that suggestion.

With all of these things to do when it is raining the kids will always be kept busy. You never know they may even eventually like those rainy days.

Besides kid’s activities, this author also regularly pens articles on knee pillow wedge and bombe chest.

Distance Education Programs And The Advantages They Offer To Learners

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Students had to attend classes at a university to get credit once upon a time. If you had a time conflict, or the university was far away, you missed out. Now distance education has changed all of this. Distance education is also sometimes called distance learning, and it involves getting educational materials to students who aren’t physically attending a course. The education is offered via technology or correspondence.

Students from all over can get an education this way. One of the earliest users of distance education is the University of South Africa, started in 1946.

Individual distance education classes and programs have been around for far longer. Distance education can be traced back to Sir Issac Pitman, who also invented shorthand. Pittman thought it might be useful to offer courses via the mail. The idea was adapted by the University of Chicago in the early 1900s; they began what is likely the first department for correspondence courses. It was not the last such department. The idea caught on and other universities followed suit.

There were only a few countries where distance learning was a major component of the educational system, however, until 1969. This changed when the United Kingdom started the Open University. This changed distance education radically and encouraged other similar universities to be founded.

Today, it is easier than ever to deliver quality instruction across great distances. We have modern technology, and the Internet. Educational materials can be delivered via email, broadcast, CD-ROM, podcast, audiotape, online message board, and video conferencing to name just some of the possible media.

We can even use a virtual classroom to deliver materials. This means that a teacher gives a lecture in one classroom and it is broadcast via teleconference to students in other classrooms as well. Students benefit from remote technology in many ways. They can also get online video materials and course materials, chat with tutors online, email instructors, and so on.

Today, most of the universities in the United States have at least some courses that are offered via distance learning. You can find distance learning in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors as well.

Distance education does have a drawback. It is expensive. Still, every day there are more opportunities and technologies that make distance education more useful. In the future, it is sure that distance education will be an important component of learning.
