Many people don’t realize that there is a science when it comes to finding a toy sale. While many stores will advertise an actual sale, in most cases you aren’t paying less than the normal prices at that store.

All they have to do is switch prices and increase them on items and then offer you a “sale” price and then when you see the word sale you automatically think that means you’re saving money, right? Sometimes toy sales are legit and other times it’s just a sneaky way for retailers to get you to spend your hard earned cash. It’s not always easy to know where the best toy sales are, but there are a few different ways that you can find out.

A newspaper subscription is a great start. Since the paper has a section for advertisements you are able to see all the different stores that are offering a toy you are interested in, along with the sale prices they are advertising. When you monitor these ads you can also see who is offering great deals, and what the standard prices are on some items.

Some believe that going to a toy store will get you the best price since toys are their specialty. That however is not always the case. There are times when you actually spend more by going to the toy store than you would if you went out to a discount department store. That brings us to the next concept.

In general you will find that most major department stores such as Kmart, Target and Wal-mart as a rule will have good deals on their toys. They are able to do this because with a larger selection they can discount any of their toys at anytime.

Each of these retailers usually have newspaper ads each week and if you don’t subscribe to a newspaper, they will usually also post their ads right inside their stores. This allows you to see what their current toy sales are or if they’re having one at all.

Over the span of the two months that lead up to Christmas, many stores begin having their toy sales. Usually these are legitimate sales, as the stores realize that customers are out looking for the hottest toys for the season. They also recognize that by cutting their prices, there is the possibility these customers will grab additional items because they believe they are saving money. The toy stores count on this because it usually will result in the customers spending more money.

Sometimes toy sales really aren’t toy sales at all. You can easily research different products online to compare pricing on identical items. The internet makes it easier than ever to comparison shop. You can find one toy online that has multiple price points, sometimes with a price difference of as much as $10 to $20 or even more. Shopping online can be your best bet when it comes to finding really great toy sales.
